CIEES collaborated with VDOE’s Office of Dispute Resolution and Administrative Services to design a statewide training series on Virginia’s restraint and seclusion regulations—supporting not just compliance, but safer, more supportive practices for students and staff.

Our Solution
CIEES developed a five-part module series, in partnership with VDOE’s Office of Dispute Resolution and Administrative Services. The training:
- Translated complex regulatory requirements into plain, practical language that educators could immediately apply
- Built foundational knowledge in evidence-based positive behavior support, conflict prevention, and crisis response
- Incorporated trauma-sensitive language and real-world application
- Culminated in a certificate-based cumulative quiz for documentation and included post-training evaluation to measure effectiveness
- Delivered through fully accessible, asynchronous format—enabling scalable implementation across Virginia
- Provide ongoing technical support, assisting educators with certificate retrieval, account access issues, and quiz troubleshooting to ensure uninterrupted learning
Drawing on our deep understanding of Virginia’s education landscape, we ensured the training addressed real classroom scenarios while meeting all compliance requirements. We focused on clarity, tone, and utility so that the training wouldn’t just check a box, but prompt real reflection and professional growth.
