The Case Management for Substance Use Disorders series is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of case managers who work with individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. Throughout this series, case managers will gain practical tools, evidence-based strategies, and insights to provide effective case management services.
Each module is designed to take one hour to complete. This includes watching the video, working through the linked case study, and completing the quiz. Module 1: Introduction to Case Management for Substance Use Disorders
In this module, you’ll learn what case management is, explore common models, and review the core functions case managers perform in supporting substance use disorder treatment.
Module 2: Case Management & Substance Use Disorders Continuum of Care
In this module, you’ll review the DSM-5-TR definition of substance use disorders, learn how to recognize key signs, and see how level of care decisions guide treatment and recovery.
Module 3: Engagement & Retention
In this module, you’ll explore engagement and retention tools such as motivational interviewing, contingency management, and risk reduction, along with the role of peers and community supports.
Module 4: Considerations for Special Populations
In this module, you’ll examine strategies for working with diverse groups, including overcoming language barriers, reducing stigma, and engaging communities to expand resources.
Module 5: Serving Special Populations
In this module, you’ll learn approaches for justice-involved individuals, adolescents, and pregnant or parenting women, and how to adapt case management to their unique needs.
